Safety
Every scope is planned with safety in it.
Safe work is a condition of good work. It is planned before mobilization, practiced in the field and reinforced every day the crew is on site.
Our commitment
Proper procedures. Every site. Every day.
Construction sites present real hazards: energized systems, work at height, moving equipment and multiple trades working in the same space. We expect everyone working with Northwest Field Services to treat those hazards seriously.
That begins with understanding the project’s requirements and continues through daily awareness, correct trade procedures, appropriate PPE and open communication. Anyone on our crews is expected to stop and raise a concern when something isn’t right.
Safety in practice
How safety shows up in our work
-
Job-site awareness
Every site is different. Crews are expected to understand the layout, active work areas, equipment movement and other trades around them before starting and as conditions change.
-
Personal protective equipment
PPE appropriate to the site and task — such as hard hats, high-visibility apparel, eye and hand protection, and fall protection where required — is worn and maintained.
-
Project-specific requirements
We follow the general contractor’s site-specific safety plan, orientation, permits and rules, and confirm them before mobilization.
-
Proper trade procedures
Work is performed using the correct methods for the trade, including procedures for energized systems, pressurized systems and work at height where they apply.
-
Site coordination
Our work is coordinated with the superintendent and other trades to avoid conflicts in shared work areas and overlapping activities.
-
Hazard communication
Hazards are identified, communicated and addressed — through pre-task discussions, signage, and open reporting of unsafe conditions.
-
Regulatory compliance
We work to comply with applicable federal, state and local safety regulations and the requirements that apply to each trade and jurisdiction.
-
Continuous awareness
Safety is revisited every day, not settled at orientation. Changing conditions, new phases and new crew members all call for renewed attention.
Before mobilization
Safety starts at scope review.
Before crews arrive, we review the work with the project team to understand the site and the hazards the scope may involve, so that the right people, procedures and equipment are planned in from the start.
- Review of the site-specific safety plan and site rules
- Identification of task-specific hazards in the scope
- Confirmation of PPE and equipment requirements
- Orientation and any required documentation for personnel
- Coordination of shared work areas with other trades
In the field
Daily practices on site
- Pre-task planning and review of the day’s work
- Housekeeping and clear access in work areas
- Use of appropriate tools and equipment in good condition
- Correct procedures for energized and pressurized systems
- Fall protection where work at height requires it
- Prompt reporting of hazards, incidents and near misses
